Playing Dress Up

source

Do you ever feel like Anne Hathaway at the beginning of The Devil Wears Prada? Running out of the house at the last minute, swiping on chapstick and a baggy sweater and calling it a day?
Believe me, I have nothing against chapstick. (And I actually look like Anne in this picture more often then I would care to admit.)
I am a pretty simple girl. I hate high heels, have never worn a blazer, and don't own expensive brand name clothes. But I do like style and I like feeling like my clothes reflect me.

While we can't all have Stanley Tucci around to give us free Prada bags and Miu Miu boots (sadly), I think it is entirely possible for every woman (no matter what your age, size, or shape is) to have affordable clothes that you like and that are easy to wear. Wouldn't it be nice if getting dressed in the morning was a little less stressful and a little more like playing dress up when you were a kid?

I'm starting a short series each Monday on making over your closet to give you some tips on how to do just that.
I'm not guaranteeing you will look like Anne Hathaway by the end of this series, but hopefully you will feel a little bit more pulled together on your next Starbucks run.

Inspiration Friday: Because I Said So

picture

I have an interesting relationship with this movie. I love Diane Keaton. I love Mandy Moore's clothes and apartment. I don't love the plot. But I own it and will re-watch it many times for decorating tips.

Milly's (Mandy Moore) apartment is just the best. Ready for the tour?

The kitchen:

picture

  • (organized) open shelving
  • boxes, glasses, cookbooks
  • super great coloured Fiestaware
  • plus: thank you, Mandy Moore for actually wearing something I might wear when I'm alone in my house!
The living room:
picture
  • love the colours
  • brick walls
  • great bookshelves
  • looove the tv cabinet- and the offset tv with a vase next to it.

picture

  • lots of pillow & blankets
  • great lamps
  • a big, round coffee table
  • that couch!
picture
  • again, colours: red, orange, sage green, a bit of creamy yellow

  • That picture is just cute.

  • check out that furniture arrangement. Isn't it great?
picture
  • orange kitchen walls
  • fresh flowers
  • the chalkboard fridge!
What do you think: do you love this apartment as much as I do?
